Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you have Square-Enix’s permission for this project, or has this project been authorized by Square-Enix in any way?
I’m afraid not. Like other fan-produced RPGs available online, I have not been officially licensed to use any of the Square-Enix properties “A Final Fantasy” draws on. Just to be completely clear: Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 2 and all related characters, graphics and trademarks are the property of the Square-Enix Company, Limited. The Player’s Instruction Manual, Gamemaster’s Instruction Manual, and this website are all entirely a fan work on my part, and I by no means wish to question or otherwise invalidate Square-Enix’s rights to the properties in question. Furthermore, if I am ever contacted by a legitimate representative of Square-Enix and ordered to cease and desist, I will (reluctantly) cease distribution of this project, as the company would be perfectly within its rights.
That having been said, I have produced this project on a strictly free-for-download basis, with no intention of turning any sort of profit for myself. All content original to me has been released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license. As far as I am aware, the project does not threaten the profits of any of Square’s existing products (I am not aware, for instance, of an officially licensed Final Fantasy pen-and-paper RPG).
Finally, I can’t help but notice that there is a large and vibrant Square community online, a great deal of which draws upon and posts the same material that I have. It seems to me that if Square were in that kind of mood, they’d have bigger fish to fry.
- Why is some of the text in the Player’s Instruction Manual (PIM) differently colored than the other text around it?
Because they’re hyperlinks. Try clicking on one. You’ll otherwise be able to tell by the way the cursor changes while hovering over them.
- Regarding Chapter 2: Races in the PIM – are the racial statistics listed supposed to be read as *all* of the racial statistics, in replacement of the SRD statistics, or in addition to the SRD statistics?
Unless directly stated otherwise, all of the racial statistics in Chapter 2 are *in addition* to the ones in the SRD. I understand that the way I organized that section might be confusing to some. I’m sorry for the trouble. To take some of the mystery out of things, I’ve posted a full, combined list of the “A Final Fantasy” racial statistics here.
- Where are the chocobos?
Here. And you can expect more variations on the theme to come out in the GMIM.
- Where are the friggin’ moogles, man?!?
See Chapter 7 in the Player’s Instruction Manual.
- Does the Moogle’s sanctuary ability apply to creatures the Moogle is attacking?
No. This ability works like the spell sanctuary. To briefly quote the SRD: “The subject cannot attack without breaking the spell but may use nonattack spells or otherwise act.”
